Kim's Entry Letter

Please consider nominating my mom, dad and brother for giving me a chance at life, not once but twice.

I was supposed to die when I was born and was given 2 days to live. My kidneys were failing, full of Cysts and eventually slowly dying as I grew older. This disease would break my ribs when I sneezed or coughed.

When I was 17, I would require a kidney transplant. My younger brother stood up for me to live. He was only 15 at the time. My dad being 49 years, also stood up to help me live by wanting to donate his kidney. However his age, weight and blood pressure prevented him as a suitable candidate. As a solution my father committed to working out. By biking kilometres and changing his diet he lost close to 40 pounds. This was in 1997.

My mother will always be the most influential woman I know. I've had to deal with so many issues. So long is my list of operations that I’ve gone through. It seems never ending. But I’ve found courage with my mom who is always by my side day after day for the past 39 years. My whole family were the ones to get me through painful and scary moments. An example would be the first time on dialysis. By age 20, I was dying. But on January 6th 1998, my hero dad was finally able to give me one of his kidneys. I cannot think of anything braver a father would do for his daughter. However my dad's kidney began to reject in April 2013. With no hesitation my brother immediately began testing. We were a match, I am excited but scared. Currently I'm not working. My days are rough. I draw the blinds, and sleep a lot. I have dialysis 3 times a week. It's not a fun thing to go through. My non-dialysis days are good. Sometimes I am able to enjoy simple things like showering or making food, without feeling like I just ran a marathon.

Come March 2015, my brother is scheduled to donate a kidney for me. My family once again are giving me another chance at life. This is where I am proud to be a part of this family. Even though I’ve put them through so much, I feel so fortunate. There is NOTHING in this world I could ever do to thank them enough.

Thank you for your consideration,

Kim

Hi Mike,

I want to thank you a million times for your generosity in coming all this way to meet me and my dad :). It was wonderful to meet you and learn about your company, and your own personal story. The gifts you brought for us were awesome, and the money you rewarded me was so thoughtful in these hard times when I cannot work. This has been such a wonderful experience and has made me so happy more than you could know :)

When I get my new kidney in March, I will be sure to give you an update on me and my brother !!

Thank you again, and I wish you and your company the best !! If you have the pictures that you took, I'd love for you to send them to me so I can show my family :)

Sincerely,

Kimberly
